ACCOMMODATION The Sports Centre is a separate building from the school and is dual purpose. It is used by the both the school and the general public. The facilities include a sports hall marked out for five badminton courts, indoor 5 - a - side soccer, volleyball, tennis, netball, indoor hockey, basketball and an indoor cricket net with 2 lanes. There are 2 partition nets that can be drawn across the full width of the hall to allow for a more varied use. There is a separate and well equipped sprung floored gymnasium with a badminton court.Two squash courts. A coffee bar which has a viewing area of the sports hall. Sauna A fitness suite, which is in the main school building. There is a large grass area all in the school grounds. A four tennis court or three netball court hard surfaced area. An athletics jumping surface Red Gras, discus and shot circle. A Nottingham wicket. The surrounding area is used for cross country.

Key Stage 3 Physical Education lessons encourage students to develop their physical and co-ordination skills in a variety of ways. They are asked to take part in gymnastics, games and other outdoor activities. Participation is the most important aspect but students who reach excellence in certain areas are helped to carry the activity to a higher level, representing the School where appropriate.
Topics to include:- Year 7 - Multi Skills, Orienteering, Basketball, Hockey, Cross Country, Gymnastics, Athletics, Rounders, Cricket, Tennis.
Year 8 - Soccer, Netball, Basketball, Gymnastics, Badminton, Cross Country, Athletics, Rounders, Cricket, Tennis.
Year 9 - Hockey, Netball, Soccer, Badminton, Basketball, Cross Country, Athletics, Rounders, Tennis, Cricket.
Key Stage 4 Pupils will be assessed on all practical skills throughout the year and each term pupils will be assessed on a specific area. All pupils undertake Cross - Country and Athletics. Participation is the most important aspect but students who reach excellence in certain areas are helped to carry the activity to a higher level, representing the School where appropriate.

AIMS A course based on this specification should encourage candidates to:

ASSESSMENT OBJECTIVES Candidates will be assessed through both practical assessment and a written examination on the following objectives:
Objective 1 – Perform effectively under applied conditions in their selected activities: • using tactics or compositional techniques • observing the rules and conventions of their activities
Objective 2 – Analyse the improvement of performance • to determine its strengths and weaknesses • to improve its quality and effectiveness
Objective 3 – Show knowledge and understanding of: • the factors affecting participation and performance in physical activity • the relationships between health, fitness and practical activity • risk assessment in physical activity
Practical Coursework
- Practical Performance - 60%
- Four activities to be undertaken in the 2 areas below (weighting 25%)
- Analysis of performance in one activity (weighting 10%)
- Practical assessment in four activities (weighting 25%)
- Moderator visit in final months of the course in order to moderate the assessment
Written Paper - 1 Hour 45 minutes - 40% of the total marks (grade range A* - G)
This paper is in three parts: • Part 1 – multiple choice questions • Part 11 – short- answer questions • Part 111 - scenario questions
This paper covers the Factors Affecting Participation and Performance and is divided into three sections: A Exercise and Training B Safety Aspects and Risk Assessment in Physical Activity and Sport C Applied Anatomy and Physiology
All three sections will be covered in each part of the paper
CLUBS Throughout the year there will be opportunities for any pupil to attend a wide range of clubs which are on offer. These are dependent on the time of year and the staff available.
TEAMS The school is represented in the local Leagues for Soccer and Netball. Friendly fixtures are arranged for other sports should there be a demand. We are represented at both area and county level for Athletics and Cross Country.
