Health & Social Care  
GCSE Health & Social Care is taught in Key Stage 4. It is particularly suited to students wishing to pursue a career in the health, social care or early years’ sectors.  It is a double award and is comprised of the following components: 
  • 33.3%          Unit 1 coursework
  • 33.3%          Unit 2 coursework
  • 33.3%          Final exam (Taken in January)

 All three units are assessed and graded from A* to G.  

Unit 1 Coursework     

(Health, Social Care and Early Years Provision.) 

For this unit of coursework, students will learn about different types of care that are provided and the range of jobs that are available within health, social care and early years’ services. Students will submit a report about a local provider of health, social care or early years’ services which includes information about the type of client using the services and an investigation into the jobs of two of the people who work there.   

Unit 2 Coursework     

(Promoting Health and Well-being) 

Students will learn about different views of health and well-being, the risks and benefits of a range of different lifestyles and how to set health targets for improving health and well-being. Students will submit an investigation into the health and well-being of a person they know.  This will include an analysis of the health of the person and a detailed health plan to help the person improve their health and well-being.  

Final exam

The final exam is about the different ways people grow and develop during their lives, including the process of human growth and development, and the different factors that can affect an individual’s experience.
